Patient Participation Group
In January 2006 a number of patients from different villages within the practice area and of different age groups were invited to form the Wychwood Surgery Patient Participation Group and the first meeting was in March, when the group met with one of the Partners, Nina Brown, and the Practice Manager, Vanessa Newman. Since 2007 the group have been involved in giving input into the practice plans for development of services both within the practice and within the North Oxfordshire Locality Group, a group of practices, which are involved in commissioning certain services for their patients as agreed with Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group. Since the Group’s inception they have been involved with identifying the need for and setting up a Drop-In Weighing Room for Babies, which is situated next to the reception and waiting room area. The group also helps with our annual fund raising coffee morning for the Lawrence Home Nursing team. When the national drive to introduce “Health Checks” came along the Group assisted with the promotion of these checks and the practice has had a high take-up rate from the patients. The Group has also helped the practice team introduce new online Access and other systems designed to help the practice run a smooth Patient-Centred service. The Group have also given a great deal of their time and support during the period of the application to open a pharmacy within Shipton under Wychwood. This has included attending meetings and email support to the practice team and other patients.
The Group have also been very actively involved in the setting up of the Practice Newsletter and they are involved with the contents and editing of the newsletter before it goes to print. They have become expert at editing out “NHS jargon”.

Wychwood Surgery Patient Participation Group (PPG) is looking for new members!
Who are we? The PPG is a group of local people who are all registered as patients at the Wychwood Surgery. We meet every three months to discuss changes and innovations at the surgery from the patient’s perspective. We aim to keep all patients informed of what’s happening at the surgery and give feedback to the GPs and Practice Manager. We also discuss and look at the wider local healthcare picture and provision of local healthcare services
Interested in joining us? You don’t need any specialist medical knowledge to join the PPG, and it won’t take up a huge amount of your time. We meet on weekday evenings at the surgery, usually at 7pm. We would particularly like to welcome new members who are under 30, or who have young children, but anyone is free to apply! Please contact me at the email address below if you are interested in joining the PPG: We are also looking at innovative ways of reaching the practice population and would welcome input from those of you who feel you can contribute in this area.
